Home, again.

Got in to Pawleys yesterday afternoon after staying the night in Alexandria with Marty. The nearly 3 week road trip, over, done with, and good riddance. At this point in my life, I am so over road trips.

I was a little worried that the worms were going to be dead when I got home, but I was delighted to see that in my absence, they’ve devoured almost all the shredded newspaper, leaving behind rich castings. This was much faster than what I’d read about online. In retrospect, a lot of the vermiculturist pages I was visiting were based out of Canada. Does the heat have something to do with it? I don’t know, but I’m excited to shred more newspaper.

When I got in yesterday, Laura and I went to see David Sedaris speak at Litchfield books (where I used to work). He was great, and signed our book and chatted with us for a bit. I really admire his performances. I told him, “We love your stories, but we really love your performances,” and I think he genuinely appreciated the compliment.

Also, got a new lead on a helper job in the HVAC industry down here. Hoping to get that sorted out soon. Keep you posted!

What Next?

So far my road trip has taken me from Pawleys to DC to Philadelphia to Boston to Cape Cod, where I am currently. Emerson reunion was last week. Today I’m going to Southborough, MA to take part in my 10 year high school reunion. I’m a little apprehensive about how few people have registered; hopefully more will show up and register day-of. My theory is that our low numbers have a lot to do with the economy, as some classmates might not be in a position to take off for a long weekend, especially if that means flying. All will be revealed soon enough, I’m sure. (more…)

Predictions on Publishing

Filed under: Blog — Roman @ 10:08 am

I’m with Marty in Alexandria. Last night we went out for a burger and a beer and stayed up late talking about the future of publishing. It was flippin’ rad.

Marty tends to be one of my go-to guys when it comes to anything journalism related, especially in DC, where he works. He’s been with a range of newspapers from the Boston Globe to specialized niche publications like Inside Washington Publishers, where he covered industry news for the Air Force. Currently, he’s working for National Journal Group, covering nuclear and biological warfare. (more…)
